About Standby Power Ratings
Emergency Standby Power (ESP) is the maximum output available from a generator to supply variable electrical loads, in accordance with ISO 8528-1, with the following limitations:
- Total annual runtime not to exceed 200 hours
- Load factor not to exceed 70% of the ESP rating over any 24-hour period
Standby generators are commonly deployed to support life safety systems and other critical applications such as refrigeration, water pumps, industrial machinery, and IT systems (often alongside a UPS).
